The Place Promised in Our Early Days

I love the title of that movie.  I feel something about the way that phrase evokes emotion and longing.
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
In this animated film, Japan is under two regimes after the country's loss in World War II. Hokkaido remains under Japanese rule while America holds the rest, a bitter division that's wrenched the nation and left its citizens confused.
Another short, created by the same director (28 minutes long, all created by one person on a PC!), also with a great title, "Voices of a Distant Star" has a similar set of themes, however, it moves a lot faster and is less nostalgic and more romantic.
Voices of a Distant Star
This beautiful anime short was created entirely by one person, Makoto Shinkai, on his home computer. It tells the story of young Mikako, who joins the resistance to fend off an alien race's attack on humans.
