Day of the Scorpion

Although you like it when life is complex, now you are searching for the simplest pleasures. There's nothing complicated about wanting to be close to the person you love or appreciating a satisfying meal, a hot bath and restful sleep. If it were really that straightforward for you, all would be so easy. Today the little things can be just enough.

"D201600" -- My First D200 Picture

I have my D200. I love it. It took it's 2,000th exposure today.

My Flickr photostream view counter broke 2,000 general views. I also have a single image on Flickr that might break 100 individual photo views soon (not this one, but Dancer I, in an earlier post.)

As I look back over the last year one of the things I would change if I could would be to have purchased a better camera a long time ago.

Instructions on How to Do What???

I was doing some quick research today on a camera project I am planning, and to see if anyone had done and documented the same project, I checked the How-To Wiki you may or may not be aware of this site, but it can be useful.  Some of the more populate how to documents can be found here, at the popular page list.  Including gems like "How to Make a Goldfish Live for Decades".

Phantom Vibration?

I saw this story on the web about phantom vibrations from cell phones.  It made me laugh because, while I had experienced this, I didn't think it had a name or people who studied it.

Who knew?

Thanks Google

I just had a short chat with my mother via Google Talk from Google Mail while I was at work and she was checking her e-mail.  That's just wonderful I think, that Google has created a friendly non-invasive chat system that is accessible enough that my mother doesn't mind using it.  Thanks Google!

For my eight thousand three hundred eighty first photograph I captured a big fat bumble bee harvesting a pink and white flowering tree near my apartment on eight thousand three hundred eighty Lions Gate Way.

Nikkor 50mm AF 50mm f/1.8 D

Today I received my new Nikkor 50mm AF 50mm f/1.8 D lens.  Amazon did not have it in stock, but I got it in under 5 days from J&R Computers.  Good shipping, packaging and very quick.  I was pretty happy that they had the f/1.8 in stock, most everyone else did not.  This will free up the f/1.4 for the D200 I am going to buy tomorrow.

I did a lot of test shooting this afternoon (200 frames) and I was pretty happy with the results.  The 50mm lens + D50 seem to skew cool in dim light worse than any other lens + D50 combination I have, so I may end up running the 812A filter all the time for this lens to deal with that.

All in all, it's really sharp, fast and while the focus is loud, it is very quick and feels certain of itself.

On a side note, regarding those jokers over at ShopCartUSA, see this link too.

ShopCartUSA Is A Scam

ShopCartUSA Sucks

ShopCartUSA is a Scam

This place and all the other names this company goes by is nothing but a con-game.

I attempted to purchase from this company which goes by more than 35 different names. This is a NY mill designed to separate money from people. Under no circumstances will they sell you a popular item at the price they advertise on their web-site without requiring that you also purchase unwanted add-ons or un-needed warranties.

They go by more than 35 different company names and even own their rating system called ShopCartUSA. They post their own reviews for make-believe purchases to many of their company web-sites. They no longer allow any negative reviews to be posted, only their shill positive reviews that's why there are no dates on the reviews. They go by other names such as Royal Camera, A&M, Digital Liquidators and Broadway Photo.

For a complete list of their shell companies check-out ShopCartUSA. This place is a scam and should be avoided at all cost.

I challenge anyone to purchase a popular product at the low price shops listed, and actually have it arrive at your doorstep for the price advertised without upgrading. I hope resellerratings posts this review because consumers need to be made aware of these types of disreputable people and businesses.

Danger!

I accumulated some dust on the CCD sensors in my Nikon D50.  I cleaned the low-pass filter and the mirror assembly today, by hand and without the help of an authorized Nikon repair technician.  It was very nerve racking, knowing one slip could destroy the D50.

A destroyed D50 would make me very sad and I would have to purchase a D200 immediately.  Maybe I should give the D50 a good poke in the eye.  Or perhaps not ... I think I'll keep my D50 in working order as a (very nice) 6.1MP backup camera once I get my fingers around that sweet D200 body I've been lusting after.  Only $1699 for the body ... if you can manage to find it in stock!

I created a new set, Parks of Ohio on Flickr. I spent about an hour on Saturday walking around a park near my apartment taking pictures.

This particular picture was taken in a small rock garden next to a small pond. The set also includes, of all things, some good pictures of ducks.
